We just came back from Rome Whisky Festival, a truly special experience with Whisky and Whisky fans in the special atmosphere of Salone delle Fontane in EUR district. It was the 8th edition of the Festival, 2000 different whiskies to try, masterclasses, mixology seminar and a new bar area. It was truly a whisky lover’s paradise. The distilleries came from all over the words, from the famous Scotland and Ireland to USA, Japan and Island too.

Mercurio Viaggi Rome Whisky Festival – Inside

Every exhibitor knows their whiskies inside out and it was well worth taking advantage of this knowledge. One of the protagonists of the festival was the Islay whiskies. They generally reverse the characteristics of Speysides, tending to be dry and peaty; behind the smoke, however, can be gentle mossy scents, and some spice.

Mercurio Viaggi Floki Whisky
Floki Whisky

A not-conventional whisky was made by distillery from Island: The Floki Icelandic Young Malt. The barley used in this malt has been smoked using generations old tradition of smoking using sheep dung in Iceland. The result is truly one of a kind with a complex flavor profile and sweet smoky notes to compliment the intense flavor of the Icelandic barley.
